Programs and ideas are created with the primary aim of facilitating growth in individuals and groups, usually in an outdoor setting. In that process Kianinny will be committed to exploring the healthy and sustainable future for our planet’s human and natural resources.
Programs and Outcomes aim to:
- Build healthy and dynamic human relationships using a combination of
physical and emotional challenge, adventure, fun, and reflection,
usually in the outdoors;
- Increase each participant’s sense of personal confidence.
This can be achieved by encouraging attempts at a graduated
series of activities or by prolonged involvement in one
pursuit which may involve physical or emotional risk in
a supportive environment. Participants are encouraged (not
forced) into trying new activities some of which may involve
initial anxiety. That is, Kianinny believes in ‘Challenge
by Choice’. It is believed that as a person matures
as they grow by becoming familiar with the anxiety that
precedes any new venture, then they learn to cope with that
uncertainty, dare to enter fully into new situations and
begin to develop true self esteem;
- Improve mutual support and trust within a group.
Kianinny believes that communication and trust are the foundations
on which all relationships build and so success and failure
are less important than making an effort and encouraging
support among group members. Traditional competition is
consciously minimised in favour of participation;
- Encourage participants to take personal responsibility
for their own health, safety and well being. Participants
are then encouraged to take responsibility for equipment,
each other and the environment in which they are learning.
We believe that each individual has a stewardship role in
caring for the earth’s human and natural resources and so
we challenge participants to consider the ways in
which they can be more sustainable;
- Ensure that participants are involved in activities and/or
processes that are fun. We also recognise that some
activities may be enjoyable at the time while others require
a more significant physical effort, for example an expedition.
In this case the enjoyment may be enhanced by reflecting
with colleagues after the successful conclusion of the event
or simply by enjoying a sense of personal satisfaction
or pride in completing a difficult task;
- Outdoor Education at Kianinny is designed to bring out
individuals natural abilities. We believe that during
certain adversities groups and individuals will present
leadership skills and will take these new found skills
into their adult life. These adversities are part of human
life and individuals will adapt and learn as they contend
with these challenges;
Programs at Kianinny Outdoor Education Centre provide opportunities
for participants to live outdoors. By observing nature,
experiencing it and collecting information about it, this
will encourage an understanding and then appreciation of
the natural world and hope that a sense of ownership and
a desire to be stewards of the natural world can develop.
The programs have been developed to provide a transition from being unaware of their natural world and the society they live in, then towards their final achievement by appreciation of themselves and the planet they inhabit in environmental and social leadership for the future and beyond.
Kianinny Outdoor Education Centre facilitates growth in individuals and communities by building healthy and dynamic human relationships using a combination of challenge, adventure, fun and reflection. Kianinny is fully committed to the health and sustainability of our planet’s human and natural resources.
Our Vision is that young Australians will journey and explore the world and in doing so will come to love, value and respect the natural world. This we believe to be an important factor in building a sustainable future for living things on earth.
Kianinny values the importance of experiential learning and living sustainably. We provide peak experiences that offer physical, social, emotional and intellectual challenges that contribute to the growth and maturity of individuals and their communities.
Here at Kianinny we have a tailored program for each year level to provide the specific outcomes that the school curriculum requires.
